Guiding
"From the borderline of boredom, to the edges of extreme, we will go to great lengths to try fulfill your Walleye fishing dream! Any time, any place, we will press on with this noble Walleye chase!"
We will be running guided services from May 15th thru October 15th with our hours of operation being up to you... the Client! We will be booking on a first come first serve basis and the time slots are very flexible but may fill up quickly depending on the time of year.
We fish in all weather: "from wind and sleet, when you can't feel your feet, to calm and 100 degrees, when you beg for a cool breeze, and will take you out from midnight to daybreak if you so choose! But bring your coffee cause if you snooze you lose!" Nothing like some night fishing for old marble eyes, eh?! We just ask that you dress accordingly and be prepared!
We will have PFDs and some extra rain gear if you forgot yours, but you need to be responsible for the essentials for your own comfort while out fishing. Here's our checklist… check it twice!
- Start with apparel, dress in layers. In the Keweenaw the weather can change in just a few minutes time! I tell people that they should start with their swim suits and dress up to their insulated (and waterproof) coveralls. I've seen it go from snow in the morning to hot and sunny in early afternoon! A good hat, gloves, waterproof footwear (and a dry bag for storage)... you get the picture!!!
- You will need a good pair of sunglasses as well. The glare off the water can be blinding at times!
- Sun block if you so choose! But I don't recommend it and I won't let you touch the bait if you have it on your hands! Walleye don't like the taste and therefore you won't catch any. Same goes for bug repellant!
- Please don't forget to bring any necessary medications you will need for the time span that we will be out! I am CPR and First aid certified, but I can't work miracles! Please let me know if you have special circumstances so I can be prepared in case of emergency.
- Food and beverages. Bring just what you will need to get you through. No huge coolers to trip over please! Try to keep it simple and as compact as possible. I usually take a couple energy drinks and meal replacement bars, and maybe a thermos of coffee.
- Licenses! Make sure you have a current / valid license for the state of MI. Michigan Department of Natural Resources
- Gear and tackle. We will supply all bait, gear, and tackle. If you choose to bring your favorite combo and lures please let me know well in advance of getting underway! We will work something out (the less stuff we have in the boat the better!).
- Start and end times. We aim to please and will try to get you fishing for all the time allotted in the slot you purchased. Allow for about a half hour to get loaded and underway to get to the spot, and about the same to get back and unload. That's why the time slots are designated as 4 - 5 hrs, this figures in the half hour before and after, with at least 4 hours of fishing! If your times are for a full day(s) we will set the schedules according to you, at your convenience, taking any breaks for lunch... when you want to...
- Locations; this can be interesting! If you have a spot that you want to fish please let me know as we can be flexible. Due to the low water levels this year we are limited to fewer launch sites; this will mean more travel time to certain spots than usual. We will have to plan accordingly. I will meet you at the closest launch site available to maximize the time we have to fish.
- If there is anything I missed, please let me know! I will need you to be very honest with me about your "level of expertise" because out on the boat is no place to start giving a basics course (that is what the clinics are for!). Clients will need to have a certain level of skill before I will take them out on a guided time slot... This benefits everyone!
Guiding times are available 7 days a week and can be scheduled for sessions, days, or weeks at a time. The guide service will be available from May 15th through October 15th or later depending upon the fall weather (and how much of a "die hard fish head" you are!!!).
Fish Filleting Services will be available for a fee. We offer tips on freezing your fish for later, and cooking your catch free of charge. We can point you in the right direction if you choose to get a mount done of a trophy catch! We will also have "digital photos" of your catch... available, for a fee, if you want us to send you pictures of your fishing adventure!
Should you land a tropy catch, you can have it mounted by Keweenaw Critters Taxidermy
