About Phil

Captain Phil Gagnon has been fishing the beautiful waters of the Keweenaw Peninsula his whole life. He practically grew up with a rod and reel in his hand, fishing mostly with friends and family. Ask someone that knows Phil and they'll say, "he loves his fishing!" He fished streams, inland lakes, the bigger waters of the Portage waterway like Torch Lake, and on up north to Lac Labelle. You name it, he's fished it over and over and over! It's a wonder his eyes aren't gold like the walleye!

Phil has participated in many local tournaments for over 20 years. Recently he participated in the "In-fisherman PWT SuperPro/Am" tournament that took place in the Houghton / Hancock area on June of 2006 as an amateur. It was his fish that won the competition for his "professional" fishing partner. The pros quickly found out that amateur or not, Phil knows walleye, though he'll tell you he's just a simple man that loves to fish.

His love and passion for fishing is infectious to those around him. For over 25 years Phil has introduced many folks in the Keweenaw to our beloved walleye, so guiding just came naturally to him. Whether you're new to the sport, or and old timer... it won't take Phil too long to get you "Hooked on fishing".

"Yes I'm a die hard fish head" folks! Ya Gotta love it! This is some SERIOUS FUN, and with the unpredictable weather in the Keweenaw, it can turn into an "extreme sport" in a moments notice! BE PREPARED!" - Phil
